Sweet little plant
This AV is cute, a slow grower in natural light in my home. She is very hardy as I often have trouble keeping Ma’s varieties alive and she has survived for almost a year now, truly a keeper. Flowers are as pictured above, just beautiful. A nice freebie that I am really enjoying!
Update
In my last review I wrote that the color was not what I expected. That is still the case but the blooms are really beautiful even though not watermelon color. The plant has grown very quickly and has many large vibrant blooms. It is quickly becoming my favorite.
What the neck?
I received my Ma's Watermelon about three and a half years ago with a few other violets. All were healthy and well packed, but I noticed that someone had been overly zealous in plucking leaves in preparation for shipping this Ma's Watermelon. It had a neck of over 1 cm and four leaves on the crown, making it look like a miniature palm tree! I was very surprised. None the less, it was robust, so I repotted it promptly and it developed a nice normal symmetrical shape over the course of six months. Since then, the foliage has been neat, flat and beautifully variegated. The flowers are large and really are the dark bright pink of watermelon flesh.
Not what I was expecting
I received this plant this week and as usual the packaging and plant quality quality is exceptional. I am very disappointed in the color. My plant is a light rose pink with a touch of blue which is nothing like the photos. No coral pink.
Favorite!
Love the variegated leaves and the color of the blooms!
Beautiful foliage
This was one of my first AV. My daughter bought it for me. I have had it for 2 years and it has not bloomed. The foliage is just beautiful. My daughter suggested that I thin out some leaves and to fertilize it some more. Still no blooms. I saw on you website where some people had better luck with natural light so I move it from my stand with grow lights back to a window, now I have my first flower bud on it.I can't waif to see it bloom. Yeah!
Exceptionally Beautiful Foliage
I received Ma's Watermelon African Violet last week and it has exceptionally beautiful foliage. I love all the colors of violets and variegated foliage that the Violet Barn offers. I purchased Ma's Watermelon violet for its' hot coral-pink color. I didn't know violets came in coral and look forward to seeing her beautiful color of flowers. Thank-you Violet Barn!
Sweet Sweet Watermelon
All of Ma's plants that I have grown have been wonderfully behaved but this one I am especially impressed with. The rosette is perfect, flat and symmetrical. I love that the new growth is often tinged in pink. It is beautiful even when not in bloom. The flowers are generous, really big and ruffled. The color is juicy and bright just like its namesake.
Beautiful!
Everything about this violet is beautiful!
Starting again
I managed to lose the original plant. She was beautiful. Have not seen blooms yet. I did take a couple leaves and have managed to make new baby plants. Super easy to propagate. Looking forward to them growing and producing flowers. The leaves are beautifully variegated.
Great, Easy Grower
The name really suits this plant-- lovely cream-edged leaves, combined with that sparkly watermelon colored flower! On my plant, the flower is a little rosier than depicted. Easy care, shapes well. I'd Recommend.

Five Stars!
Ma’s Watermelon
Lovely plant. The variegated leaves are beautiful and when it blooms the flowers are big and gorgeous! Color is beautiful too!
Beautiful violet!
Outstanding, brilliantly colored blooms highlight the beautifully variegated and tailored foliage! Gorgeous plant, one of my favorites.
Large blooms
Beautiful plant. I love the variegated leaves and the blooms are large, 1 1/2 inches across. Very happy with this plant.
A new favorite
I ordered this during winter, and it took a while until it was ready to bloom for me, but now that it's flowering, I love it. The color is more tame than I was expecting, but very pretty, and the tiny bit of white along the edge of the leaves is beautiful.
Ma's
This is a beautiful plant. I've had it for two years now and am very pleased with it. We did move and all my violets took some time to adjust to the new house. I had to move them around till I found a place where they were happy. They are now doing wonderful.
Beautiful even when not blooming
The variegated foliage on this plant is as attractive as the beautiful flowers. I have been growing violets for over forty years and i have never gotten more compliments on my violets as I have on the plants that i have ordered from The Violet Barn.
Wow!
Such a beautiful plant. The colors of the leaves with the flowers is so cheerful. Love it!
Excellent Plant
I have had this plant for several years. It is one of my favorites. Beautiful color & great bloomer.
Prettier than expected!
The flower is so cheerful and the foliage, large green leaves trimmed in white, adds to the overall beauty. I ordered two and they look so nice interspersed among my other violets.
Watermelon Color Delight!
I love watermelon so my wife bought this for me and I enjoy its unique watermelon color.
Lots of Compliments
I'll never move it because it blooms beautifully in its perfect place in semi sunshine.
Great little plant!
I first have to say that the communication with the people at the Violet Barn was fast and courteous. We ordered plants in mid-March during one of the polar vortex episodes ans everything arrived in CA perfectly. This little plant has already outgrown its original pot and has been blooming non-stop for over a month with large, long-lasting flowers.
leaves grow in symetrical flat form
I received this violet from the Violet Barn almost a year ago. I tried to grow it in an eastern window with natural light. It lived and grew a little but did not flourish. In early winter, I put it under fluorescent lights and it began to grow in a very nice flat form. It is now blooming and is doing well. I am very pleased. I only wish that it liked natural light better.
Worth the Wait!
Like a watched pot, thought it'd never bloom. It is just glorious and will be a favorite for sure.
Beautiful
My Watermelon plant is beautiful! It blooms constantly; however, the blooms are pure white, not watermelon. I love the white and am not complaining in any way as I did not have a white one! VB Note: We've never known this variety to bloom white--sure you have it properly labeled??
Mas Watermelon
It is beautiful and looks just like the picture. It is a must have.
Cool
This is a great little plant, cool color too.
Favorite Standard
The color is the main reason to like this plant. It is even more brilliant than it's photo appears online. The blossoms are also very large and the foliage attractive.
mas watermelon
This is a fantastic plant, one of the best coral/pinks every offered, just amazing color.
Simply Stunning...
This plant has become one of my favorites. What a lovely rosy red the long lasting blooms are? I love that the variegated leaves maintain a symmetrical growth pattern and are well behaved. If you love variegated plants that reward you with profuse blooming add this one to your collection.
Ma's Watermelon
Somebody really got it right when they named this plant! The color combination of the flowers above the yellow/white/and dark green foliage truly gives you the look of a watermelon. Although it is listed as coral red, mine blooms a rosey red...to me being even more like the inside color of a watermelon. This plant always brings smiles to my visitors faces when I tell them the name. Everyone gets the connection! This is a lovely plant that's easy to grow. I have noticed that mine tended to get bigger flowers as the plants matured. I really enjoy having this variety in my collection.
Ma's Watermelon
This is one of my favorites! However, I don't see why it's called a coral red as that means there is an 'orange' tint. Mine is more of a rosy red just like the inside of a ripe watermelon. The foliage holds it's varigation very nicely showing a lot of the white on the edges. To me it's perfectly named! Every time I look at it in bloom....I say, "Yep....it looks like a watermelon!"
